Hong Kong actress Jessica Hsuan is back in Singapore after a three-year absence leaving behind her veterinarian boyfriend at home.
The actress last appeared on Ch5 drama Parental Guidance 2. She recently returned to Singapore for the upcoming Ch8 drama Bountiful Blessings.
Why did Jessica who had reportedly cut back on her acting jobs to spend more time with boyfriend Ruan, take up an acting job in our sunny shores? It would mean a two-month separation for the couple who are rumoured to marry next year.
During an interview with xinmsn, Jessica explained that for a few years now, she had wanted to take a break as she had been working nonstop for the past 18 years.
"In the past decade, I've been in one show after another. I just feel that I should take a break and let my body rest," Jessica said.
Jessica expressed that she agreed to appear in a Singapore drama during a one-month rest after completing TVB drama SDU: Special Duties Unit.
The script of Bountiful Blessing got her attention; the actress found it funny, realistic yet touching. She believed that it was a drama she would be comfortable to act in and that the audience would love.
In Bountiful Blessing, Jessica plays Fu Xi, a single mother who owns a restaurant and hires Dong Hai (played by Tay Ping Hui) as her chef.
Although the drama revolves around food, Jessica admitted that she did not know how to cook. Paul Yuen, the producer of the drama, who was at the interview, insisted that she "has to". Giving him her trademark laugh, Jessica lamented that she's "dead", and asked for a body double.
Most cooking duties at home are done by her maid. The only cooking she is able to perform is making a soufflé or dessert. Ruan though has yet to taste her culinary bakes.
The Hong Kong media had reported that Jessica would be getting married early next year and claimed that she already met Ruan's parents. The wedding is rumoured to be held in South Africa and the couple reportedly wanted to have babies soon.
However, Jessica denied the rumour, saying that it was all made up by the media.

Now that she's back in Singapore, there are a couple of things Jessica wants to do.
The actress wants to catch up on old times with Adrian Pang, her co-star from Parental Guidance as well as the kids from the drama. She also hopes to enjoy Singaporean cuisine. However, the busy 40-year-old is uncertain if she has time to do so.
Jessica added that her parents would be visiting her in Singapore, so she could depend on them to buy some good food for her.
The actress also happily revealed that her boyfriend had promised to visit her here and suggested "it would be better if he brought my dog along!"
